Wedding "cake"

My cousin was married a while back and this was my gift to the newlyweds.  It is a cake made of ...paper! 

 I saw one from Stampin' Up that was done in all pink but made some changes to mine other than just the colors.  The top layer of my "cake" came off to reveal a slot about 2.5 inches long.  It was perfect for holding a gift card for the couple.

I made the roses by cutting a circle about 4" from the outside edge to the center similar to a cinnamon roll.  Then starting on the outer part of the circle I used my quilling tool and wound the paper until I reached the center of the circle.  I secured it with a glue dot to the bottom of the flower..this keeps the flower together very nicely.  I wrapped the bottom layer in white satin ribbon then used my sewing machine to fold over and sew the red ribbon to finish the bottom later.  Kind of reminds me of real cake frosting.

For the middle layer I used small 1/8" strips of paper and quilled them in to these super cute and delicate looking little flowers for the edge of the second layer.  I took some extra strips and draped them around the middle layer to fill in some of the white.  The little yellow balls are actually sewing pins and matched the accent yellow the bride chose for the wedding. 

 For the top layer I used the same little delicate flowers but added a pin in the center of each one.  This surrounded a large rose in the center of the cake.  I punched several different sized hearts and again used the sewing pins to attach them.  On the inside I used foam disks but the top later had to be hollow so the gift card would fit under it.  The foam disk in the top layer was about an inch thick and the pins helped make it a little stronger since it was going to be taken on and off.  I embossed the sides of the top layer to add some texture.

Everyone thought this was really cute!

This would also be a great idea for a birthday gift!  Especially if you plan on getting a gift card or a small something that would fit under the top layer.

Iron On "Paper"

For those who are interested in trying the "paper" for themselves.  It's sold at Michael's but there is also a website listed on the package.  http://www.junetailor.com/.  It's called Iron-On Dark T-Shirt Transfer For Ink Jet Printers by J Taylor.  The package is an 8.5 x 11 Navy blue envelope.  It contains 10 transfer sheets, one parchment sheet and instructions.

Homemade Hoodies!!

Last week our family along with my sisters family spent a week in Disneyland.  I wanted to make something for the kids because it was my nephews first trip to Disneyland and I wanted it to be special.  My sister found this "special paper" that you can print and then cut out and iron on to material.

I used my Cricut Imagine along with the Mickey and Friends and Birthday Bash Imagine cartridges.  I used the fill feature to select the colors that I wanted.  I used black for the silhouette and red for Minnie's bow.  I wanted something a little more girlie for my daughter.  The great thing about this "paper" is you can layer it.  So the possibilities are endless.  You could use any regular cartridge and then fill it in with the imagine cartridges.

I used Birthday Bash for their names.  I did 3 layers on my machine.  The letters were supposed to be red with a yellow and then black shadow.  But for what ever reason the Birthday Bash cartridge added a 4th layer in random colors.  I still like the way that they turned out.  I think that the ears on the first letter of their names was really cute.

Imagine all the stuff you could make using this "paper".  I was so excited that I have already made my daughter another shirt with some pink zebra print trimmed in red.  I plan on putting my kids names on their athletic jerseys...instead of paying too much for someone else to do it!

Sleeping Beauty Updated

Ok...I have been crazy busy and you will see why over the next few days.  I have finally taken all the pictures and uploaded them.  All I have to do now is post them.  I know that I have been lacking in my posts (to say the least).  But I am making a goal for myself.  With the spring here and the weather warming I am thinking all the "sick" bugs have gone and we can resume our normal life.

In January I attended a crop and gave you a sneak peak of my "Sleeping Beauty".  Here are some close-ups and more details.

 I attached a brad to the right side of the mask so it would rotate upwards allowing for journeling space.  I also doodled around the circle with my markers for a little fun.

 I love, love, love twine and because I am now addicted it is on, well a lot of stuff that I'm making.  Here I used a bright pink and bright orange around the chunky black ribbon knot.  I also doodled on the word "Beauty" too.  I like how it makes it a little whimsy!

 I found these adorable flowers at Roberts...last year and was waiting for the perfect layout to use them.  The mini flowers were on clearance at Michael's and came with a variety of patterned reds and pinks.  I decided to use a few of the red tones because the flowers on the quilt include shades of red.  I felt like it tied everything together.  I used my iRock to add a little bling to the centers.

The paper is from Stampin' Up.  I think that it was called Razzleberry Tart???  It is an old Designer Series Pack.  The Card stock is also Stampin' Up Only Orange, Gable Green, Black and White.  Thanks for stoppin' by and for your patience.  Until next time...

Sleeping Beauty

This past weekend I attended a local crop here in Las Vegas.  I feel like I got a lot done and wanted to share a sneak peak.

My daughter made this mask at pre-school during Halloween.   She was so proud of it and plays with it all the time.   On Christmas Eve my husband came home and found her taking her nap like this.  We have since discovered she wears it to bed all the time.

The mask is held on with a brad so it can rotate to reveal the journeling underneath.   I will post more pictures this weekend so you can get a better look.

A Little Something to say Happy Birthday

My Aunt brought a bunch of these boxes to my house.  She said that she just could not throw them away because she thought I could do something with them.  They were originally had hand puppets inside them and were lime green with a red bow.  I took all the pieces apart and covered them with birthday paper and then tied my own ribbon on top.  They fit the REALLY large Hersheys bars (5) inside.  This is a great gift for a chocolate lover.

This is an idea that I got while at a craft show from a vendor.  It is Rolo candies wrapped in coordinating paper with a Hersheys Kiss on top.  I wrapped some silver ribbon around the other end making them look like pencils.  This set I made for my mom's boss as a birthday gift.  I also made some with Christmas themed paper then added a gift card inside for my kids teachers.  They are in clear boxes you can get from various websites.

Festifall

Another quick one page layout.  I used Lacy Labels buy used 3 of the background shape each a bit smaller that the largest to create these fabulous frames.

The title is Gypsy Font and all is welded except the first letter which I made a little larger that the rest.  For the journeling I used the computer and then cut each line apart and put them on the page with (slight) abandon.  :) 

 The pumpkins are from the FREE Smiley Cards cartridge for all those who have had the Gypsy for a while and registered it.  What a great gift from Provo Craft!  I used the hide/contour feature to hide the eyes because my kids love it when I put wiggly eyes on the characters.  I wanted to make sure to keep the faces because they compliment the faces my kids made on their own pumpkins.

Pick of the Patch

A cute page with a bunch of pumpkins, just like at the patch.  This was a fun page that really came together with the addition of the Baja Breeze.  Initially I only used the orange, green and brown but thought it was too boring so I added the bits of baja and love it.

I embossed the pumpkins and leaves then inked them to add dimension.  I also added some twine to each stem.  These little touches really make a difference in the over all look.
